A Quick Tip:
Before you respond to anything – before you say something, make a choice, express a feeling (even without talking) – take a few seconds to pull back, go within, ground yourself. Imagine that there is a thin veil that separates you from the rest of the world and in your side of the veil, you are safe to be you.
Many people have spoken about this, and I’ve found from personal experience, too, that this is usually enough to identify how we truly want to participate in a situation. This is usually enough for us to know if we even need to participate, to begin with, or if we’re being called out to be a silent witness instead.
This technique has enabled me to take back words and decisions that could have hurt myself and others, which could have caused irreparable damage.
